About Meals for Mutts

Meals for Mutts is an Australian-owned dog and cat food brand offering grained and grain-free kibble, gluten free kibble, with both mixed and single-protein options available. All recipes are high in protein and have a minimum of 10% fat depending on the recipe.

Meals for Mutts prides itself on offering wholesome, hypoallergenic dog food for your dogs (and cuts). The company changed manufacturers in 2018, and although that brought some changes to the recipes, the current Meals for Mutts has kept the core ingredients the same and is still considered a high-quality dog food.

This dog food brand sources all its meat from Australian producers as well, which is great to see.

Meals for Mutts’ Range

Meals for Mutts has a range of single protein, mixed protein, grain and non-grain kibble mixes. They have options for puppies, too.

The bags come in 2.5kg or 14kg packs. The 2.5kg is $44.99, but pricing may vary depending which retailer you buy from.

Why You’ll Love Meals for Mutts

  • Good for every life stage: Whether you have a puppy, adolescent, adult or senior dog, Meals for Mutts caters to all life stages of your doggo, meaning from birth until the end, your dog can enjoy MfM for a lifetime.
  • No subscription: Meals for Mutts isn’t subscription based, so you’re not locked into any contract and you can buy on an as-needed basis.
  • Lots of stockists: There are plenty of stockists around Australia selling MfM, so you’re likely to nab a deal or a cheaper price if you shop around.

Who Should Avoid Meals for Mutts Pet Food

  • Have a dog who’s sensitive to specific vegetables: The MfM recipes don’t disclose the specific “seasonal vegetables”, so if your dog has a specific allergy to certain vegetables, this might not be the right option.
  • Want raw food: Meals for Mutts only offers traditional kibble that is cooked twice during manufacturing. It doesn’t offer any raw meals at this time.

What Customers Say

Reviews from customers are mixed, with some loving Meals for Mutts, and others not so much. This is a positive review taken from productteview.com.au:

“Transitioned our 11 month old pups from a premium brand to MfM. Stools improved from soft to firmish. One dog lost a little weight and the other maintained his. A good thing I expect. Their appetite’s improved and they gobble it down like it’s their last meal. It says that it is hypoallergenic and gluten free. The labelling is legible and seems to mean unlike the other brand. They are sensitive to too much fat and this one is around 12%. They love it and it seems perfect for our pooches. We believe it’s all Aussie and a whole lot less expensive than the other brand.”

And here are a couple of less than shiny reviews:

“14 mth old Border Collie has been eating this for 4 weeks. Enjoyed it at first. But now I avoid it. Mucus poop. Runny poo. Qty of poo (extremely smelly) has increased. With urgency at times hardly making it out the door. If she has her previous food ( black hawk lamb & rice) she returns to normal. Starts again with eating this new food. I had such high hopes. Clearly there is some ingredient that is irritating her bowel. She is also passing smelly gas which is a first. Still have 12kg from 20kg bag left over.”

“The first three ingredients after protein sources…create gas after digestion. Both my dogs had severe colic on individual different occasions..the common food was the Duck and Turkey dry food. They both enjoyed the taste”.

How to Order Meals for Mutts

Meals for Mutts is a well-balanced kibble that’ll suit most dogs. If you’re transitioning your dog to new kibble, always do it slowly.

If you want to exclusively feed your dog a kibble diet and don’t want to be locked into any subscriptions and have the flexibility to shop around at different stockists to find the best price, you might find Meals for Mutts the right pick. There are plenty of stockists around the country, both in-store and online. You cannot order food directly from the Meals for Mutts website.

However, I’d recommend reading the reviews online as it’s a very mixed bag on this one!
